THE EUROPEAN NIGHT OF MUSEUMS IN ŠIAULIAI 2022
“Space Night at the Museum” 

On May 14, 2022 (on Saturday) at 19.00–24.00 the European Night of Museums will take place in Šiauliai!

The following museums in Šiauliai will be open and invite you to free evening events:

19.00–24.00 CHAIM FRENKEL VILLA-MUSEUM (VILNIAUS ST. 74)
Visitors will get acquainted with the culture of Japan, the land of the rising sun. The presentation of the Sun symbol will take place in the cinema hall of the museum. We will invite you to educational activities, during which you will be able to make a paper spaceship, learn to write Japanese hieroglyphs in ink.19.30–21.30 the piano improvisations by Simonas Gilys will be played in the villa concert hall.

19.00–24.00 PHOTOGRAPHY MUSEUM (VILNIAUS ST. 140)
In the exhibition you will see the oldest photographs of the Sun captured in Lithuania in late 19th century in Vilnius astronomy observatory as well as the space photograph taken by the first Lithuanian satellite. The largest part of the exhibition consists of creative works by amateur astrophotographers, which capture the closest bodies of the sky to the Earth: the Sun, the Moon, their eclipses; distant space objects: fogs, swarm of stars, galaxies. The exhibition will invite visitors to travel through the vastness of space and discover the friendship between photography and astronomy.

Astrophotographer Artūras Medvedevas will give a lecture on capturing space objects, galaxies, constellations, nebula and techniques for making spectacular images. The lecture in the museum’s area will be broadcast remotely directly from the photographer’s personal observatory.

Visitors will have the opportunity not only to immerse themselves in the space atmosphere created by audio-visual installations, to savour the mysterious space music trails of electronic music producers – Gražvydas Miknevičius, Dominykas Dieliautas, Kipras Pilka – on the roof terrace, but also to create their own postcards on space topics illuminating in UV light.

19.00–24.00 VENCLAUSKIAI HOUSE-MUSEUM (VYTAUTO ST. 89)
The spectacular sky vault globe, that will be exhibited exclusively during the Museum Nights, from Šiauliai J. Janonis gymnasium will be waiting for visitors. The globe was made in the second part of the 19th century in Germany and used in the Šiauliai boys’ gymnasium. In the museum’s garden the aircraft models created by the members of the Young Technicians’ Aircraft Modelling Club will be demonstrated. Educational activities “Let’s go up!” are organized, during which visitors will be able to fold their paper airplanes and test them themselves.

19.00–24.00 ŠIAULIAI HISTORY MUSEUM (AUŠROS AL. 47)
During the event, visitors will acquaint with the exhibits (crown pieces of distaffs) shown at the exhibition “Aniceta, Stasys, Teresė, Jonas, Janė, Petras, Mykolas, Uršulė, Anupras and others. The stories of indigenous people” as well as iron crosses exhibited in the museum, their ornamentation and symbolism, which actuate the significance of celestial bodies. In the educational space, using lino-graphic techniques on textiles, you will be able to make a tab for the book.

19.00–24.00 ŽALIŪKIAI VILLAGE MILLER’S FARMSTEAD-MUSEUM (ARCHITEKTŲ ST. 73)
Visitors will find shepherds’ joys by the fire, baking shepherd’s bread and potatoes, tasting herbal tea, making and playing shepherds’ musical instruments, meeting the gentle and tame pets of the homestead, a virtual reality game that will make you feel like a real miller. 23.00 – observation of the lights of the sky with Vacys Jankus, the head of the astrophysics team of Šiauliai Technical Creation Centre, and young astrophysicists. 24.00 – there will be a midnight tour with a miller at Žaliūkiai village windmill.

19.00–24.00 BICYCLE MUSEUM (VILNIAUS ST. 139)
Visitors are invited to visit the museum’s exhibition “Bicycle in the Technological World,” participate in educational activities – using grattage technique to make a souvenir or draw a space bike.

19.00–24.00 RADIO AND TELEVISION MUSEUM (VILNIAUS ST. 174)
Visitors are invited to visit the museum’s exhibition “Audio and Video Playback Devices”, participate in educational activities for children and not only. 20.00–22.00 radio amateurs of the “Radio Association” will tell and show how short and ultra-short radio waves work, how connections are made using the moon or a flying plane. They will answer the question of why short waves do not get into space and ultra-short ones get into.

19.00–21.00 JONAS KRIVICKAS HISTORY MUSEUM AT JULIUS JANONIS GYMNASIUM (TILŽĖS ST. 137)
Exclusive stories and facts about the school in the museum and school basement, the opportunity to sit at the old wooden school desk and learn from the old textbooks.    

19.00–24.00 COURT HISTORY MUSEUM OF ŠIAULIAI DISTRICT COURT (DVARO ST. 83)
Excursions in the museum and in the only one in Lithuania court hall named after Peliksas Bugailiškis, introducing the history of courts of Lithuania and Šiauliai. It is necessary to register by email . Registration is open until May 11.

19.00–22.00 ŠIAULIAI CINEMA MUSEUM (AUŠROS AL. 15)
Exposition of Šiauliai film history. Film retrospective “Šiauliai in Films”.

18.00–22.00 ŠIAULIAI RAILWAY MUSEUM (DUBIJOS ST. 26)
Exhibits reflecting the history of railways in the museum and in the outdoor exposition. An exhibition of lanterns and a screening of a film about the railway and the city of Šiauliai are presented. Reflecting this year’s theme “Space Night at the Museum”, the children’s drawing competition “Great Train Journey to Space” will be organized in the train car.

18.00–23.00 MUSEUM OF WATER FACILITIES (VYTAUTO ST. 103)
Visiting of the museum: UAB “Šiaulių vandenys” history, the development of city water supply and sewage system, its modernization, staff’s traditions. Fun educational games “What do you know about tap water?” And “Catch pollutants”. Presentation of Juliet Korsakienė’s author’s book “Pasaka apie tris šaunius vandens lašelius” (“A tale of three cool drops of water”).

17.00–21.00 ŠIAULIAI MUSEUM OF ISOLATOR OF INVESTIGATION (TRAKŲ G. 10)
Guided tours on the history of Šiauliai isolator of investigation, the system of execution of punishments, etc. It is necessary to register in advance and get permission by email.  until 2022-05-10. THERE ARE NO VACANCIES FOR REGISTRATION.

19.00–22.00 VANDA KAVALIAUSKIENĖ‘S CAT MUSEUM (ŽUVININKŲ ST. 18) Acquaintance with the exposition of museum, with “museum director” – cat Perlas and six thousand cats from all over the world.

19.00–23.00 MILITARY MUSEUM (P. VIŠINSKIO ST. 38)
Acquaintance with Lithuanian military and defense development, the partisan wars of the 20th century, army uniforms.

19.00–24.00 BALTIC CULTURE EDUCATION CENTRE “BALTS’ ROAD” (VILNIAUS ST. 213)
The centre presents modern technologies, copies of exhibits, educational activities of the Balts’ history, culture, and lifestyle, creating opportunities to develop conscious knowledge of the Balts’ heritage and its preservation. The exposition is based on the knowledge of inhabited by the Balts areas, tribal historical development, hills and burial traditions, lifestyle, ornamentation, ceramics, weaving, metal works, beekeeping, nutrition, glees, nature. Four interactive games can also be found at the centre: “The Balts’ profession”, “Get to know the Balts’ things”, “Travel to the Balts’ daily life” and “The Balts’ life.”

19.00–24.00 ŠIAULIAI STATE DRAMA THEATRE (TILŽĖS ST. 155)
Visitors are invited to the exhibition “Theatrum Mundi” on the Resurrection Square dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Šiauliai State Drama Theatre and the installation that will open “Museum Night” on the wall in the square. From 21.00 a night tour in the theatre is organized! Visitors will be able to walk within the theatre building, get acquainted with the production workshops in the theatre, rehearsal spaces, mysterious basements, get a closer look at the theatre backstage and the “kitchen” of creative work. Pre-registration for a tour at the theatre is required. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Registration form – http://www.vsdt.lt/registracija/.
